Press release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools: 11/10/2020 Two personnel appointments were announced at tonight's Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education meeting. Melissa Roy was named principal at Barnette Elementary. She has been assistant principal at Francis Bradley Middle since 2014. Roy was also an assistant principal at Hickory Grove Elementary from 2011 to 2014 and River Gate Elementary from 2010 to 2011. She earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Plymouth State University, Plymouth, N.H., and a master's degree in educational leadership from Winthrop University, Rock Hill, S.C. Dr. Kathleen Sunseri was named executive director of federal programs. Dr. Sunseri has been the director of advanced studies since 2018 and was math curriculum coordinator for Project Leadership and Investment For Transformation (L.I.F.T.) from 2016 to 2018. She was also interim principal in 2015, assistant principal from 2012 to 2015 and dean of students from 2011 to 2012 at North Mecklenburg High, as well as a teacher at Garinger High from 2008 to 2011. Dr. Sunseri earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh; a master's degree in educational leadership from Winthrop University, Rock Hill, S.C.; and a doctoral degree in educational leadership from Wingate University, Wingate.
