Positive COVID-19 Cases Reported At 54 CMS Schools

CHARLOTTE, NC — At least 54 schools in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School district have reported cases of COVID-19 in the last 14 days, the school district announced Monday. At least 18 of the nearly 41,700 CMS students currently receiving in-person instruction, and 30 of the district's 19,100 employees tested positive during the week of Nov. 7, CMS reported in its weekly dashboard. Five CMS schools have had 15 or more people in quarantine in the two-week period, according to the district's dashboard. "Why is that important? Because if cases start to connect as a result of a school situation, that would indicate that the virus is spreading within the school," she said. "We are seeing very high use of the symptom screener app," Elling said. "That's very important that every child is screened before they come to school." She said that students were also doing a great job wearing face coverings, washing their hands and staying six feet apart. North Carolina reported 314,207 confirmed coronavirus cases in the state Monday, which included 1,972 newly confirmed cases in the state since Sunday, according to data released Nov. 16 by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
