Fatal Accident Closes EB I-696 During Tuesday Morning Rush Hour

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — Eastbound I-696 remains closed between Coolidge Highway and Woodward Avenue following a fatal crash that killed two people Tuesday morning. Michigan State Police said they responded to the crash around 5:30 a.m. and the highway lanes are expected to remain closed for several hours, including throughout rush hour. The crash started as a minor collision, but then became deadly when the two drivers involved in the crash were both killed by a passing car as they stood alongside the interstate, WDIV reported. A total of four cars were involved in the accident. Both drivers killed were men, the report noted. They have not been identified. The crash is being investigated. This story will be updated.
