NEW LONDON, CT — A Groton man wanted on drug charges is accused of ramming a New London police cruiser in an attempt to evade arrest, according to police. Hassan Ibrahim, 30, was initially stopped by officers for a motor vehicle violation Aug. 26 of last year. Police said they seized 7.6 grams of crack cocaine packaged for sale from the car. Ibrahim was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, interfering with a police officer and operating a motor vehicle without headlamps. On Jan. 17, police located what they believed to Ibrahim's car in the lot of a convenience store on Broad Street. Officers pulled into the lot and attempted to stop him for the active arrest warrant connected to the August 2021 incident. Ibrahim rammed a cruiser and fled in his vehicle, according to police. The officer in the vehicle was not injured and began a brief pursuit. Police later received a report that a vehicle with a description matching Ibrahim's—a vehicle reported stolen out of Ledyard—was involved in a traffic accident in the area of Wall and West High streets. The driver fled on foot. Police said they found a facsimile gun in the stolen vehicle as well. Ibrahim faces charges in the January incident including first-degree reckless endangerment, interfering with a police officer, first- and third-degree criminal mischief, engaging an officer in pursuit, weapon in a motor vehicle, and numerous other charges. He was arrested Friday and held on $535,000 cash bond. Anyone with information on these crimes can call police at 860-447-9107 or anonymous information can be submitted via the New London Tips 411 system.
