HAYMARKET, VA — A home caught fire in Haymarket on Saturday morning, the Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue said. The fire caused extensive damage to home and displaced two adults and one child.
Fire and rescue units were called to the home around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. When crews arrived at the home in the 5000 block of Burnside Farm Place, there was fire emerging through the roof.
The three residents of the home were woken up by smoke detectors, the fire department said. They were able to escape the home and call 911.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
The home sustained extensive damage as a result of the fire, officials said. The building official determined that the home was unsafe to occupy; two adults and one child were displaced.
The fire marshal's office determined that the fire was accidental in nature. They did not specify an exact cause for the blaze.
Fire officials are urging residents across Prince William County to check their smoke detectors on a monthly basis.
"Smoke detectors are the best way to protect you, your family, and your pets," the fire department said in a news release. "When a smoke detector activates, get out and call 911."
