CHARLOTTE, NC — The threat of a potential armed shooter in Uptown Charlotte shut down officers, including those of Duke Energy on Tryon Street Thursday afternoon. Police, however, said they were unable to locate a suspect.
"Potential shooter in uptown area. All Duke Energy buildings are on lockdown. Take cover until further notice. Remain calm and silence your phone," Duke Energy said in an emergency message to employees around noon.
Within the hour, the lockdown was lifted.
"There is no confirmed report that there is an active shooter in Uptown Charlotte," Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said, via Twitter. "A security guard called 9-1-1 after a 3rd party reported having heard someone say they had a gun near the 500 block of South Church Street. Upon arrival, the security guard advised officers that he never observed anyone with a gun."
Officers searched the area and did not locate anyone with a gun or any evidence that a shooting had taken place, CMPD said, adding, "Officers are continuing to monitor and zone check the area."
