UNION CITY, CA — Have you ever wondered how Union City was named? The Santa Rosa Press Democrat put together a story earlier this year about place names in the Bay Area. You may be surprised by the history behind Union City's name. "This one sounds Civil War-related, but it's not. Union City got its name from 'The Union,' a steamboat owned by settlers John and William Horner. The Horners built up the settlement in the wake of the Gold Rush. John Horner also went on to found today's Noe Valley neighborhood of San Francisco." Read about how other cities and towns got their names on Santa Rosa Press Democrat.
