CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the region's biggest time-honored tradition that ushers in the holiday season, is set to hit the airwaves Thursday. The ongoing pandemic, however, forced organizers to cancel an in-person version of the parade. This year, the event will be celebrated by a broadcast compilation of the best floats, marching bands, balloons and performances from previous years. "The annual celebration of the Thanksgiving Holiday, and one of the longest-running events in the City of Charlotte, will move to TV in 2020," organizers said. "The decision to cancel the in-person parade comes after discussion with health authorities, public officials and other industry experts. The uncertainty of COVID-19 conditions and public safety protocols in effect at the time of the parade drove the decision." HOW TO WATCHThe parade will broadcast on WBTV, Channel 3 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 26. More information about the 2020 Novant Health Thanksgiving Day Parade may be found here. The Thanksgiving Day Parade isn't the only holiday tradition adapting to the pandemic. The North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade, the Davidson and Cornelius' annual holiday parade featuring high school bands, horses, dancers and tractors, will be held virtually this year. "While this year's parade will not be held live on Town of Davidson and Cornelius streets, with your help we can guarantee it will be an exciting event which will entertain and help our community create new memories and connect with local organizations and businesses safely, at home," organizers said.
