PARK RIDGE, IL — A Metra train engaged its emergency brakes to avoid hitting a pedestrian near the Dee Road Metra Station in Park Ridge on Monday morning, a Metra spokesperson confirmed to Patch.
The incident was classified as a near miss because the pedestrian was not hit but the emergency brakes were applied, according to the spokesperson. The incident occurred at approximately 7:15 a.m.
Train service in the area was halted for a little over an hour before resuming at 8:20 a.m., the spokesperson said.
The Metra Union Pacific Northwest Twitter account tweeted earlier Monday a pedestrian was struck by Union Pacific Metra train #6100.
