Description
NEW episode of The Breast of Everything out now!
Comprehensive Breast Care surgeons Eric Brown, MD; Linsey Gold, DO; and Ashley Richardson, DO; discuss ‘Is There a “Best” Way to Deliver a Cancer Diagnosis’?
“There is no good way to tell a patient she has cancer, says Linsey Gold, DO. “If we wait until a patient comes to our office to receive the news for the first time, as soon as she hears she has breast cancer, she stops listening and the rest our conversation is pointless.”
All the Comprehensive Breast Care doctors agree that an initial telephone conversation is the option they choose. Receiving the diagnosis over the allows the patient an opportunity to bring family members to the in-person consult, gives the patient time to be better prepared to ask questions.
“When patients hear the news they have breast cancer, they see themselves sitting at the foot of Mt. Everest,” says Eric Brown, MD. “They can’t see the top because of the clouds. In their mind, they will never reach the other side of the mountain, but they will, and our job is to be at their side through their entire climb.”
