Description
COLUMBUS, OH — A large fire in Columbus sent a plume of thick, black smoke billowing into the sky Monday morning.
The fire ignited at an auto garage on McKinley and Grandview avenues, according to reports. Photos posted on social media showed police and fire vehicles near the building around 10:30 a.m.
The garage was engulfed in flames and firefighters feared the roof could collapse, WBNS-TV reported. Area roads were closed, including Grandview and parts of McKinley avenues.
Columbus Fire Chief Steve Martin told WCMH-TV the blaze began in the back of the building in the garage. Explosions were heard due to fuel in that part of the building, Martin said.
Smoke from the blaze was visible miles away, social media users reported.
