Lisle Artist's Exhibit On Display Through March At Aurora Gallery

AURORA, IL — Repeated images including rabbits, toy dinosaurs, doll-house furniture and lab coats are all recurring themes in Lisle artist and Marmion Academy instructor Lisa Dzuricsko's art show on display at an Aurora gallery. Dzuricsko has worked as a teacher at Marmion and an exhibiting artist for more than 20 years. Her work often features recurring themes, and her latest exhibit, "Narratives," is no exception. Rabbits symbolize former students and friends, while dinosaurs remind the artist of her age, according to a news release. Furniture, on the other hand, evokes scenes and environments. "Narratives," on display at the academy's Dr. Scholl Exhibit Mezzanine Gallery, 1000 Butterfield Road, opens with an oil painting titled "Mom." The work depicts a mother and children, setting the stage for the idea of family colors coming through in other pieces on display. Security envelopes are another part of the artist's exhibit, open through March. The item, though mundane, interest the artist because of their weight and meaning, according to the release. She has collected envelopes both from personal mail and the school's finance office. "Initially, it was the variety of patterns that attracted," she said of the envelopes. "The pattern both hides and dresses up the inside personal information. It is a mode of protection." Although addresses are not included in the displayed piece, invoices from art supply stores are tied together with yellow ribbons to form a quilt-like piece. Her students also collaborated with her to add their own drawings to the various envelopes. A garment of security envelopes is currently in the works, too, according to the release. Dzuricsko, who received her master's in fine arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, works in a range of mediums, from drawing, printmaking, collage, ceramics to installations, Photoshop, performance and video. A closing reception for "Narratives" will take place from noon to 2 p.m. March 6. Free to the public, the exhibit can be viewed on school days during gallery hours, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Appointments can also be made by calling 630-897-6936, ext. 219.
