CHARLOTTE, NC — Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run at the 4600 block of Old Statesville Road, according to the department.
Just after 9 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to a call reporting a person had been hit by a vehicle, and when they got to the scene they found the person lying in the road.
Police say they learned the suspect that struck her had left the scene in a dark-colored Chevrolet pickup truck.
The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC responded and declared the pedestrian, Valerie Williams, 65, dead at the scene.
The Major Crash Investigation Unit, Crime Scene Search, and officers from the DWI Task Force responded to conduct the investigation.
With the public's help, the vehicle was located a short distance from the scene. The driver was identified as Earl Crisco and his vehicle was seized as evidence. Crisco was screened for impairment and found not to be impaired. Toxicology results are pending. Speed also does not appear to be a factor, police say.
Crisco was arrested for felony hit and run, and after an interview was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
