Police Seek Help In Road Rage Shooting Death Of Bus Driver

CHARLOTTE, NC — "When Ethan Rivera clocked in for his shift, no one knew it would be his last," said CATS Ceo John Lewis in a press conference. Rivera died over the weekend after a result of injuries he suffered following a road rage shooting Friday night. The shooting happened near the Greyhound station on West Trade Street. He went to work for CATS in the height of the pandemic, said Lewis, showing how willing he was to step up in a time the transit line needed help the most. He was a loving son, brother, and father, and the person who shot him to death is still on the loose. "He was the victim of a tragic and senseless act of violence. We grieve with his family," said Lewis. Due to the seriousness of the shooting, Charlotte- Mecklenburg Police sent in their homicide unit immediately Friday night, working on obtaining evidence to pinpoint who shot Rivera. "It's an open and active investigation," said CMPD Capt. Joel McNelly. "We are hoping in the next day or so we able to release details about suspect vehicle and photos and video to go along with that." CMPD is pleading with the public to come forward if they saw anything around 9:30 p.m. downtown that seemed out of order, especially pertaining to anything involving a CATS bus and road rage. "There is no indication that any of River's actions led to him becoming a victim," said Capt. Brad Koch. "No piece of information is too small," said Capt. McNelly. "Do not engage in arguments with other motorists. Do not engage in aggressive driving. do not engage in retaliatory driving. Make sure you are aware of your surrounding and be courteous and treat others with a little bit of grace," said Capt. Koch.
