CALABASAS, CA — Seven people were hospitalized with one in critical condition following a pileup involving an LAPD patrol car in Calabasas Sunday morning. The crash triggered a SigAlert for the westbound Ventura (101) Freeway .
The crash occurred on Las Virgenes Road near the westbound side of the freeway shortly after 10:30 a.m. Sunday, according to authorities. The two officers were leaving the scene of another call, when they were rear-ended as a part of the chain-reaction crash, said Officer Melissa Podany of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section. Neither officer was injured in the crash, she added.
Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched at 10:37 a.m., according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher. A Sigalert was issued sometime after the crash closing the No. 4 lane of the westbound freeway and the Las Virgenes Road off-ramp, the California Highway Patrol said.
All lanes of traffic on the westbound 101 Freeway, including the Las Virgenes off-ramp, were re-opened at about 1 p.m.
