NORTHPORT, AL — Jamie Lake, who has represented District 2 on the Tuscaloosa County Board of Education since 2020, has confirmed to Patch that he will be stepping down from his seat after taking a new job that would conflict with his elected office. His new job is one with the federal government, with the Hatch Act prohibiting local partisan elected service. "The job is a great opportunity for me and my family," he told Patch on Monday. "It's been an honor for me to serve on the county school board and I wish the best for all of our school leaders, administrators, teachers and students." First elected as a Republican in 2020, Lake defeated challenger Ronnie Lett in the Republican Primary to fill the seat left vacant by the late James Barnett — a board member who served for three decades who chose not to seek re-election. The TCSS Board of Education is set to meet Thursday, where the next steps on a replacement will likely be discussed. District 2 covers Northport and the northern part of Tuscaloosa County, including: Collins Riverside Middle School, Crestmont Elementary, Echols Middle School, Faucett-Vestavia Elementary, Huntington Place Elementary, Matthews Elementary, Northport Elementary, Northside High, Northside Middle, Tuscaloosa County High and Walker Elementary.
