TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit has arrested and charged a McCalla man with first degree sexual abuse. Click here to subscribe to our free Tuscaloosa Daily newsletter and breaking news alerts Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the multi-agency unit, said on Feb. 11, investigators with the unit's Sexual Assault Section arrested 75-year-old John Leslie Chase on the single count of sexual abuse — a felony. Chase was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where his bond was set at $15,000. "It took a great deal of courage for this victim to come forward at this time," Kennedy said in a press release on Monday. "The Sexual Assault Section works alongside other community partners to support victims, and bring these types of offenders to justice." Out of respect to the privacy of the victims, Kennedy went on to say that no other information relating to Chase's offenses will be made public at this time. Kennedy also encouraged anyone who may have been a victim of Chase to please contact the Violent Crimes Unit at (205) 464-8690. Have a news tip or suggestion on how I can improve Tuscaloosa Patch?
