Position: Operations Assistant Who we are: NPK Associates, Inc Where we are located: 329 W 18th st. Chicago - South Loop, near China Town & Pilsen We are a small, award-winning company which specializes in tropical plants, flowers, and art pieces. We do projects of many sizes and types from container plants, to green walls, to botanic art. Our work sites range throughout Chicagoland and include exterior landscaping, atriums, restaurants, hotels, and office interiors. This position is an excellent doorway into horticulture and a career with plants. Training will be provided. This is something of an ‘understudy’ position, and you will receive training to assist in Service, Install, and Warehouse roles. Your responsibilities after initial training will include: *Assist with special projects (plant walls, moss walls, exteriors, etc.) *Fill-in for Service technicians or Install staff during vacations/sick days *Assist in daily warehouse activities *Delivery and extra site work as needed *Continued training with Service and Install Managers The hours will be 7am-3pm, M-F. This is a full-time position, though part-time positions may be considered if desired. Pay will start at $17 hourly, and there is the opportunity to advance to a Supervisor role after full training period completion and recommendation. We are looking for a hard-worker with a high level of enthusiasm, energy, and an interest in horticulture. Must have basic computer and communication skills. A valid driver’s License is required. Experience working with tropical plants, greenhouses, landscaping, or any horticultural education is a plus. Creative background is a plus. Experience with tools, MS Office/Google Workspace, delivery, management, or customer service is a plus. The work is often physical - it requires moving and being on your feet for most of the day. There is lifting and bending involved. You must be able to lift 50 lbs and be ok with occasional work at heights (ladder or lift). Site work will be as needed and encompasses floral deliveries, exterior landscaping, plant replacements, holiday decorating, and more. Though you will have a steady schedule, this is a job where each day is different than the last. We do not require weekend or evening work.
