Description

A reckoning of Island racial history AND a celebration of our diverse cultures with art, music, food and poetry On Friday, June 24th, an evening of TRUTH offers a history of early residents of color at the Martha's Vineyard Camp Meeting Association (MVCMA). On Saturday, June 25, celebrate all afternoon at a Diversity Fair and celebrate that night at JOY, a diversity concert curated by MVY radio. The events are free. Donations are welcome and can be made at mvdiversitycoalition.org. TRUTH 5:30 PM: Join the African American Heritage Trail of Martha's Vineyard for a plaque dedication honoring African American and Wampanoag residents of the Martha's Vineyard Camp Meeting Association. 6:30 PM: Presentation -- A history of early residents of color at the Martha's Vineyard Camp Meeting Association including their segregation and subsequent exclusion from owning or renting cottages. JOY 2:00 PM: Diversity Fair with delicious food vendors, island artisans, community service organizations and a job fair. 6:30 PM: Live music and entertainment curated by MVY radio. MVDC is an all-volunteer organization committed to achieving racial equity on Martha’s Vineyard. Its large and diverse membership is a repository of talent which MVDC’s leadership calls upon for its primary task of facilitating and enabling other Not-For-Profit organizations to accomplish their own goals toward racial justice. MVDC does not subsume but rather uplifts those partner NFP’s and provides them the means to fully realize their goals. MVDC is headed by a racially diverse Board of Trustees and operates with several committees such as Law Enforcement, Health Disparity and Education.
