Gatherings of Greatness: Southland Surf Clubs from the Mid 50s to Mid 70s Join us at the Hermosa Beach Museum on Saturday March 5th at 4:30 PM for a presentation with author Bruce Gabrielson on Southland Surf Clubs from the mid 50s to the mid 70s. KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: Ticket registration through Eventbrite is required for this event. All attendees will be required to wear a mask inside the Museum space regardless of vaccination status. Hand sanitizer and social distance signage are throughout the galleries. AUTHOR PREFACE: This book has been a labor of love for me. I wanted to document the club involvement many of us experienced during a special age of surfing. Most surfers started surfing with their friends at local spots with some graduating on the more challenging breaks and advanced friends as their skill progressed. While some clubs have disappeared into history, others have grown or been re-born with newer interest in clubs. This book represents a serious amount of work tracking down the few dwindling sources of those who were there during the golden era of surf clubs, the mid-50s to the mid-70s. It is my hope that once this book is in publication, others with knowledge and stories of these early clubs, particularly the clubs with no information, will come forward. "To delight, illuminate, and promote lifelong learning."
