Shawn Dooley (R-Norfolk), who recently announced his intention to run for the State Senate. Teehan, a lifelong resident of the district, is a Union Carpenter and a former State House Staffer, having served as Chief of Staff to Senator Walter Timilty during Timilty's tenure in the House of Representatives. During his time working in the State House, Teehan played an important role in drafting legislation and analyzing budgets. On his campaign facebook page, Teehan said "Our district needs to continue to have strong advocacy at the State House. As a lifelong resident of the 9th Norfolk district, I am abundantly aware of the issues that are important to our communities. My lived experience working construction as a commercial carpenter has given me an intimate understanding of the needs and values of the working families of this district. As a former State House Staffer, I possess the skill set necessary to deliver on day one for our communities." Teehan said his campaign will focus on improving early education and childcare, the opioid epidemic and senior housing, stating "I believe it's of paramount importance that the older adults in our district have every opportunity to continue living and flourishing in the communities that they have devoted themselves to." A number of Massachusetts Elected Officials announced their endorsement of Teehan's candidacy on Friday, including Senator Walter F. Timilty, Representative Denise Garlick, Senator Paul Feeney, Representative John H. Rogers, Representative Edward R. Phillips, Representative Meghan Kilcoyne and Walpole School Committee Chair Bill Buckley. Senator Walter Timilty (D-Milton) said that "During my tenure in the House of Representatives, Steve Teehan served as both my Chief of Staff and my Legislative Aide. During Steve's distinguished time working side by side with myself, he was dedicated to bettering the lives of the citizens of the commonwealth each and every day. Steve, tenaciously, worked with me to craft legislation, analyze budgets, and make sure that our constituent services were always of the highest caliber. In short, Steve will be ready on day one to be an outstanding State Representative for the 9th Norfolk District." "Steve Teehan knows our communities. He shares our issues and cares about the concerns of young families and the pressure of early education and child care, the strain of the opioid epidemic on individuals and families, and the struggle of older adults to live and prosper in the Towns they have built. He has experience at the state level with public policy and budgets and at the ground level in the building. I know he will bring his strength, vitality, compassion and incredible work ethic to serving all the people of the District" Denise Garlick, RN, State Representative (D-Needham). Senator Paul Feeney (D-Foxboro) remarked "I am thrilled to endorse my friend Steve Teehan in his candidacy for State Representative of the 9th Norfolk district. In the years that I have known Steve, I have been a witness to his tireless work ethic and his commitment to the community. He has proven himself to be a resolute and energetic advocate for working families in the commonwealth. We need people like Steve to fight for middle-class values in the legislature."I've known Steve for over 20 years and was fortunate enough to work with him during his time at the State House. He has always been proud of where he's from and passionate about the concerns closest to his community. Steve is honest, hard working, and is uniquely qualified to deliver results for the 9th Norfolk district. He has had years of legislative experience and understands how to get things done on Beacon Hill. That, coupled with his deep roots in the community and knowledge of the issues that affect the everyday lives of the young families, and seniors in his community will make Steve an excellent State Representative. For all of these reasons, I am proud to endorse Stephen Teehan for State Representative of the 9th Norfolk District." said State Representative John H. Rogers (D-Norwood) "Having worked alongside Steve as a State House staffer, I got to see his incredible work ethic and drive to help people up close," said State Representative Edward R. Philips (D-Sharon). "No one will work harder for the constituents of the 9th Norfolk District than he will, which is why I'm proud to support his candidacy for State Representative. We need more people like Steve in the House." "I am proud to support Steve's candidacy for State Representative." said State Representative Meghan Kilcoyne (D-Clinton) "I've had the privilege to know Steve for nearly a decade, both as a colleague and a friend. Having worked alongside him at the State House, I saw firsthand Steve's passion in helping others and his drive to improve the quality of life for the communities he served. I know Steve will work tirelessly for the people of the 9th Norfolk and will be ready to bring both his considerable experience and drive to the House of Representatives." "I'm with Steve because he gets it," said Walpole School Committee Chair Bill Buckley, "He understands the needs of suburban communities like ours because he has served suburban communities like ours in the legislature. He knows how to help people because, for years, he was the first person to pick up the phone at the State House when a person was in need and had turned to state government. Steve will prioritize the needs of students in our region and fight for the funding and services they need in our post-pandemic world."
