BEVERLY HILLS, CA — They say laughter is the best medicine, and in a time of anxiety and uncertainty it might just do the trick. More than 40 comics will unite to perform a livestream comedy show Thursday to raise money to help communities disproportionately affected by the new coronavirus. The Comedy Quarantine show will be live from 6 to 9 p.m. on the Comedy Quarantine Instagram account. Audience members will be encouraged to donate to COVID-19 Mutual Aid Network Los Angeles and will also have a chance to tip performers who have donated their time to the cause. "We will have links to support every performer since comedians have had to cancel paid work as a result of CDC guidelines," the show organizers said. "Many of their livelihoods have been affected, and this is a way to support those performers and help the relief efforts against COVID-19 all at the same time." Don't miss local and statewide news about coronavirus developments and precautions. Sign up for Patch alerts and daily newsletters. Some of the comics on the lineup include: Maria Bamford, Adam Conover, Chris Garcia, Nick Turner, Jena Friedman, Naomi Epkerigin, James Adomian, Teresa Lee, Babs Gray, Brandie Posey, Jamie Loftus, Joe Kwaczala, Zach Noe Towers and Kat Toledo, among others. COVID-19 Mutual Aid Network Los Angeles is comprised of different grassroots organizations, movements and organizers, who are committed to organizing material support in the community, the GoFundMe said. They are immediately providing grocery and supply deliveries, and are preparing to expand this to other community support services such as running errands, dog walking, childcare, caregiving and mental health support for those impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, the fundraiser said. For more information or to donate, visit the COVID-19 Mutual Aid Network GoFundMe. There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including: Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.Stay home when you are sick.Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.Follow CDC's recommendations for using a facemask.CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. The use of facemasks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility).Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.Related Coverage: What You Need To Know About California's Lockdown Of Seniors And The Chronically Ill California Coronavirus: Live Updates On Cases, Updates, Closures GoFundMe is a Patch promotional partner
