Happy Valentine's Day Sacramento! First, today's weather: Partly sunny. High: 68 Low: 44. Here are the top five stories today in Sacramento: Plans for the 10-acre Mills Crossing project are moving forward in Rancho Cordova. The city-owned lot, located next to a light rail station, is one of the best transit-oriented development opportunities within the city. The approved plan includes up to 110 housing units, two acres of outdoor community space, and up to 120,000 square feet of commercial space expected to be filled by health and arts focused tenants. Mather Field/Mills light rail station is directly across the street from the site, and it's the busiest light rail station in the city. The city plans for construction to begin in early 2023 and be completed by 2025. (sacog.org)Sacramento's Japantown hosted the Lunar New Year Festival Saturday to celebrate the holiday. The nonprofit My Sister's House held the event to support local businesses and bring awareness to their cause. "We're always up for another good celebration, right, especially in these difficult times, especially when there is stress in the family," explained My Sister's House executive director Nilda Guanzon Valmores "We want to make sure we push out the bad spirits and bring in the good spirits for the new year." (FOX40) Love is in the air for a Citrus Heights horse vaulting team as three siblings who coach the team plan a triple wedding. All three couples have been part of the Nu Balance vaulting family for years. The team has brought the Cavalcade of Horses to the California State Fair each year until the pandemic put those plans on hold for the last two years. Although the team is awaiting an official announcement, they are looking forward to resuming performances this year. With three brides and three grooms, the brides-to-be say they are expecting over 400 guests at the wedding planned for May 2023. The Nu Balance vaulting team will be part of the ceremonies, they say. (Citrus Heights Sentinel/ subscription may be required) About 70 firefighters worked to put out the flames burning in multiple vacant warehouse buildings in Sacramento on Saturday, authorities said. The fire was located on 1st Avenue near 5th Street, which is near the Interstate 5 and Highway 80 interchange. One firefighter was taken to the hospital with a minor injury. The cause of the fire is under investigation. (KCRA3) From our sponsor: Today's Sacramento Daily is brought to you in part by Newrez, a leading nationwide mortgage lender.
