CHICAGO, IL — Multiple Chicago firefighters were injured Saturday as they battled a blaze in Roseland on the city's South Side, the Chicago Fire Department confirmed on Twitter.
Five firefighters were taken to the hospital. A sixth is being evaluated for possible transport after a mayday was called at approximately 3:30 p.m. near 112th Place and Princeton Avenue.
A mayday is typically called when a firefighter is trapped, injured or in an immediately life-threatening situation; however, officials said none of the firefighters sustained life-threatening injuries.
Fire officials said they believe a flashover at the fire caused the injuries.
