JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — Victims of major flooding in Jefferson and Shelby counties in October have received approximately $9.7 million in federal aid. That total includes more than $8 million from the National Flood Insurance Program, according to a Starnes Media report. Pres. Joe Biden on Dec. 21 issued a federal disaster declaration for Jefferson and Shelby counties, making federal help available. Since then, National Flood Insurance Program has paid about $8.2 million and 213 homeowners and renters had been approved for $1.1 million in federal grants through FEMA's Individual and Households Program. Those seeking federal aid are still eligible for help.
