BEVERLY HILLS, CA — The Beverly Hills Police Department will have the ability to streamline its processes of collecting and reporting traffic data to the state after receiving a grant totaling nearly $153,000 from the California Office of Traffic Safety, the department announced on Wednesday. The $152,900 grant will assist the department in developing a new or updating its existing electronic crash reporting system with software that provides more concise data to the California Highway Patrol's Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System. The funds will also provide police officials with developing an electronic citation system aimed at improving safety measures for local motorists. According to state officials, the grant that Beverly Hills law enforcement officials received this month is new for 2021 and improves how quickly crash data is provided to the California Highway Patrol. The process of collecting high-quality data is critical, OTS Director Barbara Rooney said in a news release announcing the grant and is used by state traffic officials to determine how to best address road safety issues around California. The grant program runs through Sept. 30, 2021. "This funding will help paint a clearer picture of the biggest traffic safety issues," Beverly Hills Police Chief Dominick Rivetti said in the release.
