Position Overview: Responsible for all aspects of the elevator operation including but not limited to receiving/shipping grain, storage, handling, and monitoring stored grain condition. Job duties primarily consist of dumping and loading trucks, housekeeping duties and maintenance of facilities and equipment. Essential Job Functions: • Load and unload grain trucks; includes operating all necessary equipment. • Load and unload railcars; includes operating all necessary equipment • Cleaning inside and outside of the elevator using a shovel, broom, mop, or other tools. • Operate reclaim; includes equipment, starting and maintaining proper grain flow; maintain grain quality blend specified for each movement. • Operate fill conveyors/bin deck; assuring grain is placed in correct bins. Includes moving trippers, setting distributors and discharge gates. • Collect grain samples during turning or shipping operations. • Required to clean out grain bins. • Grade Grain per USDA guidelines • Operate Bulk Scale • Operate Truck Scale • Fumigate grain and seal bin after fumigation, under direction of licensed fumigant applicator. • Operate forklifts, loaders, and similar equipment. • Operate Railcar movers: Track mobiles and/or Locomotives • Operate grain cleaner and make adjustments. (if applicable to facility) • Assist operations personnel, maintenance personnel and supervisors as needed. • Maintain facilities and equipment using the required hand tools. • Perform routine maintenance and repair of the equipment correctly without supervision. • Grounds maintenance to include mowing, shredding, weeding, and spraying weeds. Responsible for the maintenance of mowers and weed trimmers. • Pump water at various locations. • Must be alert and aware of any dangers or mechanical problems that could result in injury or damage to property. • Must be willing and available for travel to other locations for extended periods of time. • Punctual and regular attendance is an essential job function • Other tasks as assigned by Supervisor or Management. Minimum Job Requirements Education and Experience: • High School diploma or GED required. • Five or more years of experience in grain elevator facilities may be substituted for the education requirements. • Three years or more related experience and/or training required. Qualifications and Skills: • Knowledge of all aspects of grain elevator operations. • Requires the knowledge of how to grade and condition all grains handled at the facility. • Knowledge of and ability to perform multiple tasks in various areas of the grain elevator operations. • Must have thorough housekeeping skills. • Possess a high level of initiative and ability to work independently. • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions. • Ability to effectively communicate information to supervisor and management. • Must be friendly and able to interact with customers, truck drivers, and other visitors. Must be willing to answer questions and assist as requested. • Great work ethic. • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license. (Subject to Elevator Superintendent’s discretion. • Must be mechanically inclined. • Must be trustworthy, dependable and ethical. • Must have knowledge of and understand the personnel and safety policies of the company. Physical Requirements: • Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds. • Must be able to work at heights of up to 200+ feet. • Must work in confined spaces and/or spaces of limited mobility. • Regularly required to use hands to touch, handle, or feel, drive and tie down equipment. • Required to reach with arms, stand and walk for long periods of time on hard surfaces. • Required to bend, sit, talk, see, smell and hear. • Must be able to travel via automobile and sit for long periods of time while driving or as a passenger. • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and color vision • Working conditions include but are not limited to exposure to certain commodities including corn, milo, and wheat. • Requires exposure to grain dust • Required to wear common safety equipment in and around grain elevator. • Must be able to work in extreme cold, heat, humidity, and other inclement weather conditions. Other: • Normal working hours are between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. However, hours may vary according to operational needs and facility location. Overtime may be required as deemed necessary by the Supervisor. Overtime must be approved in advance. Late nights, weekends, and holidays will be required as deemed necessary by Management. • This job requires safety training and adherence to all policies and procedures of the company. • Job performance impacts functions and activities within organizational unit. • May be required to travel to other locations for extended periods of time.
