COBB COUNTY, GA — The Georgia Department of Public Health confirmed Friday that a 1-year-old boy from Cobb County has died due to the coronavirus, marking the youngest Georgian to die from COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the virus. According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, the boy was Black and had underlying conditions. He is one of five children younger than 18 who have died from the coronavirus in Georgia. On Friday, Georgia recorded 78 other new deaths, 2,383 new cases and 208 new hospitalizations from the coronavirus, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health's website. In all, Georgia has had 265,372 cases of the coronavirus, 5,471 deaths and 24,335 people hospitalized since March. Counties in or near metro Atlanta continue to have the highest number of positives, with Fulton County still in the lead.
