OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — A 36-year-old Lyon Township man has been accused by Oakland County Sheriff's Deputies of arson, the sheriff's office said Monday.
Deputies said they, along with the Lyon Fire Department, were called out to a house fire in the 60000 block of Pontiac Trail at around 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The caller reported it was an abandoned home and that he saw smoke coming from the upper story of the home, deputies said.
Fire crews extinguished the fire, deputies said. The Lyon Township Fire Marshall requested an Oakland County Fire Investigator for an origin and cause investigation as deputies said arson was the suspected cause of the fire.
It was determined the fire was arson and had originated in two places on the second floor of the house, deputies said. The caller, who deputies said was the 36-year-old accused of starting the fire, was on probation and wearing a GPS tether. The tether company was contacted, it was confirmed that the accused had been at the location where the fire occurred and at the time it occurred, deputies said.
The accused was interviewed and then transported to the Oakland County Jail pending issuance of charges, deputies said.
