Marietta Schools Get $75K Grant For Virtual Tutoring: Coronavirus

MARIETTA, GA — A $75,000 grant will help Marietta students who may struggle with staying current with virtual learning during the coronavirus pandemic. According to a Marietta City School System spokesperson, the district will use the funding to provide virtual one-on-one tutoring, mentoring and more. It'll also offset the cost of distance learning. Schools in Marietta have been closed since March 16 due to the pandemic. School district spokeswoman Jen Brock tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the grant will help "students not yet engaged or who are at greater risk" of falling behind during the system's closure. The funding comes from the Greater Atlanta COVID-19 Recovery and Response Fund, which is a partnership between United Way of Greater Atlanta and the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta. Marietta City Schools was one of 13 nonprofit organizations and one of five public school systems to receive money in the fifth round of funding, which contributed about $1.4 million to area organizations.
