Not only is reading to a dog fun, bu it helps build confidence, motivation and reading skills! Sign your child up for free reading sessions. Our Book Buddies are trained and certified therapy dogs, and they are all ears! By joining us every second Saturday of the moth for a free reading session, your child will have an opportunity to read to one of our therapy dogs, with the owner of the dog, a Guardian Whiskers volunteer, holding the end of a leash, in a quiet reading room. Bring a favorite book, or we have books to choose from. We kindly ask that parents, guardians, siblings and friends wait patiently in our waiting area while the 20-minute reading session is completed by your child. Our volunteer will help only when needed through difficult words or to maintain the flow of the story, rather than pointing out mistakes. We are not looking for perfection – and neither are the dogs! The Book Buddies enjoy being read to, and they provide a safe, supportive and nonjudgmental environment for children to practice reading aloud at their own pace.
