Your support funds us to finding a space to create with art2space 501(3)(c) BACKSTORY: “Moving Sale” is a reproduction of a previous exhibition that was held in July 2021 called “Garage Sale” which was held in Romana's shed at a house she rented. “Moving Sale” is being constructed inside of a storage unit as a restatement of what “Garage Sale” was about and art2space’s mission. “Moving Sale” takes place inside a moving truck parked outside Mixtape Vintage on Belmont. The reason being is that as BIPOC artists, we have to fight for the right to creator and gallery space in order to share our truth. Joelly and Romana have both seen struggles as women of color trying to integrate into gallery spaces and murals in Portland, OR. Romana, known as romonsta, started art2space in production of “Garage Sale” that as creators, Romana defines art and expression as a need next to food, water, shelter, and community. Romana also struggled herself with having all of her creativity return to her in the midst of the pandemic and waiting for unemployment to come through. In this time, she found herself running out of art supplies and no funds to fuel her life’s calling. She decided to start a fundraiser in the midst of it all and raised 99% of her goal to supply free art supplies to BIPOC communities including children, c3po, and attendees of Portland Art Picnic’s Juneteenth event in which she dispersed all supplies and built a free art supply library. The free art supply library is a sector of art2space and will be featured in the exhibit with more information. After the show's final production she searched high and low for any place to move her exhibit and came to a dead end on galleries not responding, people not knowing her as an artist in the community. art2space's momentum is an all inclusive space and anyone can be a part of, regardless of their status as an artist. ART2SPACE STATEMENT: Founded in July of 2021, art2space is an arts non-profit focusing on maker space, gallery integration, and exposure for our artistry. vision statement: all art, every voice. mission statement: We envision a world in which our artist neighbors get the accessibility path to the platform of showcasing their skillset and talents into careers.
