Description

Press release from the City of Berkeley: September 17, 2020 This year, the Berkeley Police Department has already investigated 82 injury collisions that involved a pedestrian or a bicyclist. Thanks to a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), officers were able to plan and participate in a pedestrian safety operation in an effort to reduce injury collisions in Berkeley. On the morning of September 16th, officers in plain clothes used marked crosswalks to walk across the street while uniformed officers watched for drivers who failed to yield for people in the crosswalk. During this operation, officers cited 32 drivers and educated them on the dangers that are associated with these violations. Watch a short video here.
