Press release from the City of Berkeley: Berkeley, California (Friday, December 18, 2020) - Press Contact: Byron White, Berkeley Police Department, (510) 981-5780 Berkeley, California (Friday, December 18, 2020) - On December 16th at 11:20 pm, an officer spotted a car driving with its headlights off in the area of San Pablo Avenue and Virginia Street. When the officer contacted the driver, the officer noticed the smell of marijuana smoke emanating from inside the vehicle. When the officers searched the vehicle, they discovered a loaded assault rifle (equipped with a high-capacity magazine) in the backseat. The driver (a 28-year-old Oakland man) was arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded/concealed firearm as well as several weapons violations.
