1 Dead Following Officer-Involved Shooting In Lexington: Police

LEXINGTON, MA — A man is dead following a confrontation with police in Lexington on Saturday, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan. At 12:30 p.m., police received a 911 call from a man jogging in the area of Hancock Road, Ryan said during a Saturday evening news conference. The jogger said as he passed a building at 98 Hancock Rd., a man was standing in the window asking passers-by to call the police because "a man was trying to kill him," according to authorities. When police arrived, they encountered another man in the driveway holding a knife, Ryan said. Officers asked the suspect to drop the knife, but he refused and advanced toward the officers, authorities said. After asking the suspect numerous times to drop the knife, officers fired non-lethal rounds at him; however, the suspect continued to advance toward officers, Ryan said. At one point, an officer fell to the ground and when the suspect approached him, another officer opened fire and shot the suspect, Ryan said. The suspect, who was not identified was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries, Ryan said. A resident who lives nearby told NBC10 Boston that he heard multiple gunshots coming from the area of Burlington Street. "I couldn't see what was going on. I just knew that there were police here and I just heard someone yelling, 'drop it, drop it,' several times and then another person was just kind of screaming and then I heard the shots," Chris Wood told NBC10.
