Solano County Warns Of Unsolicited Plant Seeds Shipped From China

SOLANO COUNTY, CA —Following reports about California homeowners receiving unsolicited shipments of plant seeds from China, Solano County's agricultural commissioner Tuesday urged any Solano County residents who may have received the seeds to contact the county. "Seed packets should not be opened, shipped or disposed of by residents to prevent a potential dispersal of invasive plants or quarantine pests," said Solano County Agricultural Commissioner Ed King. Earlier Tuesday, the California Department of Food and Agriculture notified King and county agricultural commissioners throughout California of the reports. State officials and the U.S. Department of Agriculture were working Tuesday to coordinate any actions that may need to be taken surrounding the seed shipments reportedly received in California, King said. In the meantime, it is recommended that County Ag departments hold onto the seeds until safe disposal instructions are provided. Any Solano County residents who received unsolicited seeds from China, or know someone else who has received them, is urged to contact the Solano County Agriculture Department by calling 707-784-1310.
