Press release from City of Fort Worth: February 11, 2022 Farrington Field is a renowned example of Art Deco stadium design, recently listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It and the surrounding 36 acres are in the heart of Fort Worth's Cultural District and have been used by a variety of community groups over the years. The Urban Land Institute – Dallas Fort Worth District Council, in cooperation with the Fort Worth ISD, the City of Fort Worth and local design and real estate professionals, will complete a technical advisory panel focused on the redevelopment of Farrington Field and Billingsley Fieldhouse Feb. 15-17. The study represents an opportunity to bring the City and Fort Worth ISD together with the diverse collection of stakeholders who define the neighboring community to envision an inclusive, equitable plan and disposition strategy for the property that will benefit the entire city. The property has the potential to attract entrepreneurial businesses that would align with the city's economic development strategic plan while complementing existing businesses and institutions in the area. The possibility of redevelopment is challenging, however, because the iconic Art Deco stadium is architecturally and historically significant, because the site contains important drainage easements and setbacks for nearby gas wells, and because the Fort Worth Stock Show and other public events rely heavily on the parking lot during events. The panel will present its findings and recommendations at a public meeting at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden Center, 3220 Botanic Garden Blvd. The Urban Land Institute will provide the city and FWISD with a draft report on the workshop results within 90 days and will be available to provide implementation advice for 12 months after the workshop. As the study's sponsors, the city and FWISD are each contributing $25,000 to cover the panel's costs. To learn more, contact Tamela Thornton with the Urban Land Institute.
