SOLANO COUNTY, CA — The Solano Area office of the California Highway Patrol invites teen drivers and their parents to attend an upcoming online "Start Smart" class. The class will be conducted virtually on Zoom from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10. "Start Smart" is a review of the rules of the road, with some video clips and related movies designed to inform parents of the restrictions on teen drivers and give some important information to teens who are about to or have recently received their license. According to the CHP, statistics show that young drivers who have recently received their driver's license are five times more likely to be involved in an accident than more seasoned, experienced drivers. Further, traffic collisions continue to be the leading cause of death for youth 15-20 years old. To sign up for the Sept. 10 class, call the Solano Area CHP Office at 707-428-2100. There is no cost for the classes, but parents are required to attend. The "Start Smart" program is supported by a grant awarded by the California Office of Traffic Safety Administration through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
