Longtime Solano County Resident Named Solano Area CHP Commander

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — California Highway Patrol Chief Chris Costigan announced the selection of Capt. Steve West as the new commander of the Solano Area office. Based at 3050 Travis Blvd. in Fairfield, the Solano Area CHP is responsible for all freeways within Solano County and all roadways in unincorporated areas of the county. West replaces Capt. Mark Headrick, who was selected to command the CHP's Air Operations Section in Sacramento. West is a 21-year law enforcement veteran who has been with the CHP since 1999, when he worked as a patrol officer in the Marin Area. He has also served in the Solano and Castro Valley areas, and at the Cordelia Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility (CVEF). West has worked on many task forces and committees, and was selected to work in specialized units at both the CHP Academy in West Sacramento and CHP Headquarters in Sacramento. In 2017, West, who is a longtime Solano County resident with deep roots in the community, was selected to lead the CVEF as commander of the facility in Cordelia. In 2018, West was promoted to captain of the Professional Training Section at CHP Headquarters in Sacramento. West has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Chapman University and a master's degree in management from American Military University. In addition to his career in law enforcement, West is a 31-year military veteran who serves as a chief master sergeant in the Reserves on the Headquarters Air Force Staff at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
