Description
I have 3 male Degu up for adoption. They are recently weaned, all males, and perfect for someone who wants to own a rodent with a large personality.
Degu are social animals and live in colonies in the wild with males helping to raise the babies. These three boys are siblings born on January 8th of this year. Parents are on site and I manage a Google sheet with weights and health information for all of my Degu.
I'd prefer to rehome them all together but I am willing to separate if you already have Degu and can prove you have an adequate setup for them. These animals do not belong in tanks. They are semi-arboreal and need vertical space with shelves, ramps, and tons of things to chew on in order to keep their teeth shortened. They can live 7+ years and do require an exotic vet if you ever need to bring them to a vet. Bar spacing on cages should be.5 inches or less. They need a very large wheel to keep their spines from hunching over when they run. Think chinchilla size, 12inches in diameter or larger. Degu do not need bedding and should never be kept on wood chips because it will cause respiratory issues. We use fleece, bath mats, and cardboard to cover up the floor and any wiring they walk on to keep their feet healthy.
Degu as pets are incredibly loving. We have several males that literally leap out of the cage demanding to be held. These babies can easily come around to that behavior with enough patience. They need to have hay available 24/7, as well as food and fresh vegetables. They cannot have sugar, so no fruit, and no dairy or live food. Strictly herbivore diet and they love herbs.
I am asking 30$ apiece to ensure they go to someone who knows what they are doing. If you take all 3 I'll drop it to 75 for the trio.
