MORNINGSIDE HEIGHTS, NY — James Comey, the former director of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), will hold a teaching position at Columbia University next academic year. Comey will be the senior research scholar at Columbia Law School and a fellow of the Reuben Mark Initiative for Organization Character and Leadership, the school said in an announcement on Tuesday. The attorney will teach a new seminar called "Lawyers and Leaders," and serve as one of the leaders of a program which invites executives from government agencies, corporations and top law firms to teach classes at Columbia. Comey was the FBI director from 2013 until 2017, until President Donald Trump ousted him amid a bureau investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. In the time since, he's become a frequent critic of Trump and also published a book called "A High Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership." Before becoming the director of the FBI, Comey led the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and served as the deputy attorney general of the United States.
