UPPER WEST SIDE, NY – Election Day 2020 is upon us. Early voting is now finished, with 1.1 million New Yorkers already casting their votes. But if you haven't had your say yet – and you're registered to vote – you still have a chance. Check your registration status here. Here's a brief rundown of local races and how to cast a ballot in them. Local Races Aside from the high-profile presidential election, more local offices are also up for grabs this fall, including Congressional, State Senate and State Assembly races. Jerry Nadler, a Democrat who has represented the Upper West Side in Congress since 1992, is seeking another term. He is being challenged by Republican Cathy Bernstein and Libertarian Michael Madrid. Also seeking re-election are State Senators Jose Serrano and Brian Benjamin, who both represent portions of the Upper West Side. Benjamin will face Republican challenger Oz Sultan, and Serrano will face Republican nominee Jose Colon. State Senator Brad Hoylman, who represents a small part of the Upper West Side, is running unopposed. In the Assembly, Linda Rosenthal and Danny O'Donnell are also both running unopposed. Absentee voting Monday, Nov. 2 is the last day to request an absentee ballot in person. The deadlines to request an absentee ballot online or by mail have passed. Ballots that are mailed in must be postmarked by Tuesday, Nov. 3. Ballots were sent out weeks ago, albeit with some problems in New York City. Be sure to check whether your name and address is correct on the ballot before you fill it out.Once you fill out the ballot, fold it and put it in a smaller envelope. Sign and date the back of the envelope, seal it and put it in the larger envelope addressed to the Board of Elections. The ballot can then be mailed, or delivered to a polling site or the city's Board of Elections office by 9 p.m. on Tuesday. Voters can track their ballots by clicking here. Voters who choose to vote on Election Day itself can easily find their polling location by clicking here. What Happens After Nov. 3? Experts predict results could take longer to get counted than other elections because of the coronavirus. Sit back, be patient and check Patch for updates. Matt Troutman contributed to this report.
