New Logos On Gwinnett County Police Cars Draw Mixed Reaction

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA—The Gwinnett County Police Department began rolling out new logos on their police cruisers recently, however, not everyone has been quick to warm up to the new look. "The public should start seeing these vehicles on the roadways and in neighborhoods starting immediately," the police department posted on its official Facebook page Thursday. The new logo incorporates various shades of blue graphics. A circular image on the side of the police cruisers near the words "Gwinnett County Police" features a dark blue circle with light-colored blue, "kaleidoscopic" shapes overlapping inside. Residents were quick to share their thoughts on the new look of the police cruisers on social media. Not all comments, though, were pleasant. Some people said the logo lacked a true connection to the county it's supposed to represent. "I'm a born and raised Georgia boy, but I've lived in numerous counties across the U.S. and even in one in Germany. I'm no expert, but usually a county logo has a meaning. It has an animal, symbol, etc that is easily recognizable. Something like an eagle, lion, bird, fish etc with some native plant or famous structure or building local to the county," one commenter said. "The Gwinnett orb really doesn't have much meaning. Three overlapping colors doesn't mean much." "Such a waste of money," one person posted. "They actually paid a consultant to come up with that. Nothing wrong with the old look." Other residents praised the new logo and referred to it as "clean." "Gotta mark new cars either way. If you understand branding then it makes sense," one commenter said. "You'll see other governments following this lead because it saves money in the long run. One unified look versus every department paying for their own look with tax money. Gwinnett's ahead of the game here." "That logo looks great," said another posted. "I am proud to live in Gwinnett County. May God bless our law enforcement and first responders. Thank you for keeping my family and I safe." According to the ACJ, Gwinnett County officially adopted a new logo, slogan and seal in 2017 as part of its bicentennial celebration and as a way of better representing the community the county has become. Before that, the county never had an official slogan.
