UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Assembly Member Daniel O'Donnell will remain the representative for the 69th Assembly District after running uncontested on Tuesday night. O'Donnell has served in the position since 2002, and was the first openly gay man elected to the New York Assembly. The 69th District goes from around West 80th Street to West 125th Street, and includes part of the Upper West Side, Morningside Heights, and Manhattan Valley. For any future New York City election coverage, you can subscribe to the Upper West Side Patch. O'Donnell was born in Queens and worked as a public defender at the Legal Aid Society before opening his own law firm on the Upper West Side. He and his husband live in Morningside Heights. He is currently the Chair of the Tourism, Parks, Arts and Sports Development Committee and the Chair of the Codes Subcommittee on Criminal Procedure. "My vision for New York is that it remains welcoming and diverse with room for all types of people — whether they have been here for generations or they have just arrived," O'Donnell wrote on his website. "Diversity is what draws people into our great city. We have a lot of work to do to maintain this balance, including defending and advancing affordable housing, living wage jobs, and a culture that welcomes people in regardless of race, religion, gender, age, ethnicity or sexual orientation." You can find out more about O'Donnell on his website.
