UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Standing in the rain Sunday morning, Comptroller and mayoral candidate Scott Stringer received multiple endorsements from a collection of prominent Upper West Side and Manhattan elected officials. Leading the string of endorsements was Rep. Jerrold Nadler, who has represented the Upper West Side in Congress since 1992. "I know that Scott is a man of integrity, he's a New Yorker to his core, and he will bring real progressive change as Mayor," Nadler said during the endorsement announcement in Verdi Square at West 72nd and Amsterdam. "I'm proud to endorse him, and I urge my neighbors on the West Side and across the city to send Scott Stringer to City Hall." In Stringer's own remarks, the former Upper West Side Assembly member called Nadler, a "mentor." "Jerry's not just a mentor for me, he's an example for all public servants," Stringer said during the announcement. "He's admired on the Upper West Side and across the country for his integrity and principled leadership, and I'm lucky to have him by my side in every challenge." Upper West Side Assembly members Dick Gottfried and Linda Rosenthal also announced their endorsements of Stringer, along with Upper Manhattan State Senator Robert Jackson. Rosenthal took over Stringer's 67th Assembly seat in 2006, when he became the Manhattan Borough President. Nadler, Gottfried, Rosenthal, and Jackson now join 16 other elected officials in New York City who have endorsed Stringer, including eight from Manhattan.
