Riverside Park Set To Fix Closed Staircase After Generous Gift

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — The Riverside Park Conservancy announced on Sunday an additional improvement that will take place within the Upper West Side park in 2021. In the spring, the Conservancy will repair and reopen the long-closed staircase next to the 107th Street Peter Jay Sharp Volunteer House within the park. Photo courtesy of the Riverside Park Conservancy. Near the 108th Street soccer fields and the 110th Street basketball courts, the staircase is a key access point to Riverside Park. New York City Parks didn't have the funds to fix the staircase, according to the Conservancy. However, those funds were made available by a recent "generous gift" from an Upper West Side neighbor. The Conservancy counts on such private donations to "provide day-to-day maintenance," according to a news release about the staircase improvement. You can specify areas of the park you'd like to see your donation go toward fixing and improving on the Conservancy's website. The Riverside Park Conservancy has completed multiple projects in 2020 due to the generosity of private donations, including the repair of the step ramps from 110th to 114th Streets, the repaving of the 138th Street path, and the repair of a sidewalk and path between 95th and 97th Streets.
