DHCR is the ghettoest agency. I went to their Jamaica office for a job interview and even though they offered me a job, I didn't want to work there and I don't recommend it for other people. When I walked into the building, the lobby smelled like garbage. Then the security guard in the building (a 60 year old black lady named Joyce) started yelling at me while asking if I had an appointment and demanding to see my ID. I don't know why she was yelling because there was no fire. Anyways...after she stopped howling, I went up to the 6th floor and that's when things got interesting. Everyone looked tense and on edge. I got concerned so while waiting to be called for my interview, I asked some random person how they liked their job and the agency. This person (who said he worked with top management for years) said that the people in management are really nasty and harass employees when they don't like them. I asked if it had to do with race, and they said sometimes. I'm a POC (person of color) so I'm not going to be taking that from anyone. I finally got called in for my interview and although 1 of the 3 interviewers seemed nice, the other 2 were kind of rude. I figured that was a preview of what to expect so after their HR lady called me to offer me the job, I said no. On a side note, this place is super far from the train station and there's no good places to eat around there. Also most of the people I saw in the office were either really old or really young. I don't think it would have been the right fit for me. Anyways...just want to put this out there for anyone that's job searching. Keep looking and don't let anything get you down!
