Description

Join us for a free zero waste workshop, where you'll learn tips for reducing your waste & hear from others about their zero waste journeys! Want to practice more sustainable habits and reduce your individual waste impact? No matter where you are on your waste reduction journey, we can always learn from one another! Come hear from community members about their helpful tips for reducing waste, as well as the cofounders of Plenty Mercantile about their sustainability practices. We will also do a tutorial for how to make reusable bags out of old t-shirts. Attendees can bring a shirt from home and make their own bag at the event! We will also share "recipes" for different DIY cleaners to help you cut back on household plastic waste. Speakers: Danielle Lapsley - Danielle started her intentional journey in 2013 and has become an advocate for reducing waste when possible since. Growing up in rural Oklahoma and with grandparents who never let anything go to waste, instilled the values that she has come to appreciate and advocate for. Lowering your waste doesn’t happen over night. It’s about making intentional choices that fit who/where you are right now. Natalie Kent - Natalie Kent (she/her) is the founder of Zero Waste OKC, a sustainability organization on a mission to foster a zero waste community in the southern United States. Zero Waste OKC equips zero waste-curious individuals with free resources, education, and community events in their area, and supporting local businesses and individuals who are taking steps towards reducing their environmental footprint. As of 2021, the organization launched another chapter in Savannah, Georgia called Zero Waste SAV. Brittany Ward - In 2015, Brittany began a conscious consumer journey while living abroad in Australia. Eventually being a conscious consumer turned into a vegan diet and the challenge to reduce waste overall. She is passionate about sustainability, taking small steps every day to reduce her footprint. Traci Walton and Brittney Matlock - Traci and Brittney are a dynamic mother/daughter duo and are the cofounders and CBO and CEO (respectively) of Plenty Mercantile. PLENTY champions sustainability by mindfully sourcing refined goods. They use responsible design to strengthen their connection to the environment and to each other. OKC Beautiful is a local environmental beautification and education nonprofit serving the Oklahoma City area for 50 years! We believe the appearance of our city directly impacts its economic viability as well as affecting the quality of life and self-image of its residents. OKC Beautiful programs include LitterBlitz, Mother Earth, OKC Harvest, Teen Board, and more!
