Description

FREE NIGHT at the museum It's FREE NIGHT at the museum! In a continuation of Third Thursday FREE DAY, you'll be able to enjoy a FREE evening at the Capitol Park Museum. History is an important record of the journey of a people. A history museum helps keep that history alive for generations to come. This month as we celebrate Black History Month, come see the important contributions African Americans made to Louisiana and the nation's history. Take one of the gallery tours available that evening. After Hours at Capitol Park Museum is an opportunity to get closer to our history as it comes alive during these evening conversations of transportation, architecture, film & music, culture, and history. Our commitment to education & civic engagement is made possible by support from our Sponsors & Friends of Capitol Park Museum. After hours programs start at 4:00pm. Our After Hours sponsor Hayride Scandal will have a specialty cocktail and other libations available. Our exhibitions stay open until 7:00 p.m   The Capitol Park Museum features thematic exhibits on the diverse aspects of Louisiana history, industry and culture. The museum includes two permanent exhibitions, entitled Grounds for Greatness: Louisiana and the Nation, and Experiencing Louisiana: Discovering the Soul of America.   Topics range from the Louisiana Purchase to Sportsmen's Paradise to Mardi Gras traditions throughout the state. Artifacts include a 48 foot wooden shrimp trawler, a Civil War submarine, a record breaking Marlin, a Krewe of lawnmowers, a New Orleans Lucky Dog cart and musical artifacts from Fats Domino, Buddy Guy, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, Aaron Neville and much more!
