UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Upper East Siders seeking housewares and home goods may need to make a farther trek by year's end: Bed Bath & Beyond reportedly plans to close its neighborhood location by the end of 2020.
The store at 410 East 61st Street, on 1st Avenue, is among 63 that the company plans to close sometime this year, USA Today reported. Over the next two years, Bed Bath & Beyond will close 200 of its stores nationwide, as it faces millions in losses during the coronavirus pandemic.
Other New York City locations closing this year include the College Point Boulevard store in Flushing, Queens, and the Veterans Road West shop in Staten Island. California and New York are the hardest-hit states by the closures, each losing six stores, according to USA Today.
Bed Bath & Beyond has six other Manhattan locations that appear to have survived this round of closures. The closest stores to the Upper East Side will now be the store's two Broadway locations, on 65th and 90th streets on the Upper West Side, as well as its Harlem store on 125th Street.
